PWF Night-O
March 16
Saturday
Night-O returns to Prince William Forest Park Happyland (Camp 5) on Saturday evening, March 16. Come orienteer in the dark - it's fun, it's instructive, and we've got a warm lodge with a fireplace and convivial folks to hang out with after your run. This event occurs in the middle of the training weekend, but is a separate event, so training weekend attendees are welcome to participate, but will be required to pay the individual meet fees.
This Night-O event does not require pre-registration, so just come to the event and register starting at 7pm. Start your course any time between 7:30 - 9:00pm, and be absolutely sure to be back before 10:30pm. Course details for the 4 courses (1 beginner, 1 intermediate, 2 advanced - short and long) will be posted soon.
Driving directions are also posted below. We have not finalized the parking arrangements for the Night-O participants yet, but we will post the details as soon as they are available. Be prepared to walk up to 800 meters in the dark to the registration area, so have your headlamp or flashlight ready to go. We will try to get closer-in parking, but parking is tight in that area.
If you are not participating in the training weekend, cabin accommodations unfortunately will not be available. If you don’t want to drive home after the meet there are several hotels/motels in the immediate area. Just search for lodging in Dumfries.
Any youth or large groups attending, please contact the Event Director so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group; the group registration and waiver form is part of the information on our Group Leaders page.

Course Notes | Night-O The woods around Happyland have suffered a bit due to the storms that cancelled the event last year. There are many unmapped rootstocks and areas of downed trees. In addition, the vegetation is relatively thick in many places, even in areas marked as white woods. There is a lot of moisture around, but it shouldn’t be nearly as wet and muddy as last week at Mason Neck. Most of the mapped water features seem to be close to their normal size. | ||||||||||||||||||||
