Mtn Bike-O Reg. for Sat Nov 13 Now Open!

We proudly announce the first of several QOC Mountain Bike Orienteering events!

Our inaugural event this Nov. 13 (the Saturday just before our Nov. 14 orienteering event at Patuxent) will feature 4 courses - deliberately designed to be a bit shorter than future courses will be - centered around Springfield's Lake Accotink.

Mo-vember's a-Comb'ing!

Yes, that's right - we're almost at the end of this month, which means Movember is almost hair!

QOC member David Onkst would like to invite fellow Y-chromosome carriers to take advantage of the once-a-year chance to be part of the QOC Team in the worldwide Movember charity event.

Full details are best appreciated via this link to a PDF document of his explaining what it all means.

Rogaine anyone?

Take the Party Bus and Help QOC Win!

Once a year, the 3 Mid-Atlantic orienteering clubs (QOC, DVOA and SVO) meet up in a friendly competition, and a highly complex formula that includes a count of the members per club is used to determine the winning club. Help us win back the celebrated "Broken Compass Award" by heading up to the event this coming Oct. 31 - and don't let the competitive aspects scare you if you're on white, yellow or orange courses - all participation helps, regardless of which course or your speed. [Competition details are listed here.]

QOC Medalists from US Classic Champs

Running amidst beautiful fall colors and on a very challenging new map, QOC members brought back 9 medals from last weekend's Classic Champs orienteering competition, hosted by EMPO. The terrain bore little resemblance to any of our local venues; it featured highly complex contour and rock detail, quite indistinct trails, many marsh/reentrant drainages, and yet was often surprisingly fast and runnable. A touch of Scandinavia right in upstate New York!
