Combat Village
April 14
Sunday
It gives us no end of pleasure to be able to say we have permission to hold an event at Combat Village, site of the 1997 US Classic Champs, for the first time in a decade. Course and map details are posted below, and online registration is now open until the evening of Monday April 8. We will not be offering day-of registration for this event, so why not register now? Registration is now closed.
Even more than usual, youth groups and other large groups planning to attend this event must contact the Event Director no later than April 7 so that we can coordinate pre-registration for your group; the group registration and waiver form is part of the information on our Group Leaders page.
This event is a QOC event like most others, and beginners and families are definitely as welcome as always, but since it occurs on a military base (with permission!) please note the following:
- Every participant will need to show government issued photo ID at the sentry gate, and only if your name is on the roster of confirmed participants will you be allowed entry. Minors do not need photo ID. GROUPS: Make sure we have the first and last names of everyone in your group, and not just the person who registered your group! This includes all children, babies, spectators, granparents and babysitters - EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE NAMED ON OUR EVENT LIST BY MONDAY MIDNIGHT..
- All active military are offered discounted (member) prices for this event - select "other" as your club affiliation when registering.
- Please allow enough time to enjoy the 9.4 mile drive from the I-95 exit, then through the sentry gate to the event site, Landing Zone Peregrine. There will be directional signs.
- A directional map (PDF format) is now posted (click on the link).
- At the event sign-in area, all participants must sign (yet another) waiver.
- Green, Red and Blue maps will be at 1:15000 scale. Improvise, Adapt and Overcome! Orange and Brown maps are at 1:10,000 scale, and White and Yellow are at 1:7500.
- Drones will be used to find and target anyone who's not back at the finish by course closing time (3pm).
- Inside the base, you may only drive on the roads necessary to get to the event.
- Sorry, but dogs are not allowed at this event.
- Wondering who has registered so far? Click here.
- The Disclaimer: This event is not an official event of, and is not endorsed or sponsored by the Federal Government, Department of Defense, United States Marine Corps, or Marine Corps Base Quantico.
- OK, we were kidding: While our volunteers who stay even later than usual waiting for participants who aren't back by 3pm might wish to deploy drones, we won't really be doing that. Yet.
- Any questions? Use our Contact Form and ask away!

Course Notes | Classic Orienteering SAFETY BEARING: If lost go south until you reach a paved road. This will be MCB-1, the road you traveled to reach the parking site. General map/terrain/course info: The field work for this map was originally done by Mark Dominie in 1996 and last used by the Quantico OC in 2003. Despite the map's age, the area shows surprisingly minimal natural or man-made changes. There has been some recent logging, and where encountered by the course setter these areas have been hastily marked on the map. Some trails are not as distinct now as depicted. You may encounter some remnants of pre-USMC ownership of the land in the form of building foundations, trash pits, etc. A unique symbol on this map is a small black triangle with a dot in the center. These mark the locations of "control points" used to train newly commissioned 2nd Lts in "land navigation". They are metal stakes about 4 ft high with an ammo can the size of a lunch pail welded to the top. They're painted red with gold lettering. Many of these are used for this meet. On the orange through blue control descriptions they are designated with a black x. Only the white & yellow courses will actually pass through "Combat Town" (formerly "Combat Village"). It's shown on the map about 850m NE of the parking area as a cleared (orange) area with buildings (black squares) inside. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
