Mapping Clinic

March 19
Wednesday
QOC’s maps are a valuable resource, and while we don’t use all 130 mapped areas, the ones we do use require updates to keep them current. With the hope of increasing our current pool of mappers, QOC's Mapping Director Ted Good will conduct a free beginning mapping clinic. The clinic will consist of two zoom sessions and an in-person mapping session. The course is open to and geared towards QOC members who are experienced orienteers.
Learning how to map is great way to improve your map reading skills and become a better orienteer. As an additional incentive to mapping, QOC has a program that will pay club members $10 per hour spent field checking. This program will be covered in the class but there are restrictions and it requires a W9 to be submitted to the club.
As this is a beginner class it will focus on basic mapping and field checking but won’t get into every mapping aspect. We won’t be covering LIDAR processing or OCAD drafting. After this class, participants should understand the map making process, orienteering map symbols, and be able perform field checks to update existing maps.
The schedule:
- Zoom Sessions (2):
- #1: Wed. March 19, 7-10pm
- #2: Wed. March 26, 7-10pm; may not need the whole time.
