Learn-O at Chimborazo Park
On Saturday, 12 June 2010, a Learn-O Orienteering Event was held at Chimborazo Park in Richmond, Va in 90 degree Temps. The City Park is small, so the 5 color map was a 1:3,500 with 3 meter contours-good for the newcomers. The high temps and thick GREEN put 2 controls at the Orange level. The venue was a 20 point Score-O with no time limit. The heat resulted in only 12 participants going out in 5 groups after a teaching/coaching clinic. Special thanks goes out to Wyatt Kingston and Kristi Oucutt for teaching the newbys and then coaching them as needed on the course as well as advertising the event and then helping with control pickup. Thanks guys, QOC would not be able to operate with such dedicated volunteers! One father and son managed to get all 20 inspite of the conditions.
