Sunday
With temperatures expected to be in the 70's and a national park in full fall foliage, this Sunday's Prince William Forest Park event promises to be a great one to attend!
Our meeting spot will be near the Visitor's Center (at the Pine Grove pavilion), and participants will hike and run through the beautifully open "South Fork" terrain well known for hosting the 2002 and 2007 US Champs competitions (among others). Course setter Bjorn Skjaevestad, a valuable import from Norway to QOC-land, has set a full range of courses to take full advantage of this wonderful terrain. Epunching will be used on all courses, facilities, picnic tables and parking are nearby, and the maps are reasonably up to date. Note to pet owners: dogs are welcome, so long as they are kept on leashes six feet or less in length at all times.
Late additions:
(1) A $5 fee must be paid to enter the park. If there is a person at the entrance you can pay there; otherwise, please pay at the visitor center near Pine Grove. Parking will be in the spaces SW of the pavilion. We have been asked not to use the SE spaces/slots.
(2) Master course setter (and mapper) Francis Hogle will be conducting his multi-session Course Setters Clinic over the next few months, and he'll discuss his plans at Noon near the registration area for this event. If you haven't already signed up for this great learning experience (which can greatly improve your orienteering as well as help QOC by teaching you the fundamentals of setting all levels of orienteering courses), seek him out in the half hour before noon to discuss whether it's right for you.
(3) Got questions about next weekend's Party Bus or the event it will be heading to? Ask at registration!
See you there!
