PWF BridgeWelcome to QOC's classic orienteering event at picturesque Prince William Forest Park near Quantico, VA. This event will have a full set of eight courses (white through blue, plus, beige) courtesy of course setter Tori Campbell; course stats are below and comments will be posted when available.

Pre-registration is now open! Event timing will be our standard: check-in any time between 10:45 - 1:15, start between 11 - 1:30, and make sure to be out of the woods and back to the Finish by 3pm. When you are ready to pre-register and pay (it helps to have your epunch # handy), click here.

New to orienteering? We will hold beginner clinics continuously during the event; just tell the friendly folks at registration if you'd like to be in one and they'll take care of you. Also, make sure to check out our Your First Event and For Beginners webpages, and if they don't answer any question you have, just use our Contact Us form and ask away!

Group Leaders: please see our For Group Leaders webpage and then contact the Event Director so your group can get pre-registered in advance.

Additional Information:

  • If you do not have a National Park or Prince William Forest Park annual pass, the park entry fee is $5 per vehicle (another good reason to carpool!). If the gatehouse is not manned, you must pay the fee at the Visitor Center that you will pass on your way to the parking area.
  • Contour interval for all maps is 5m. Map scales will be announced closer to the event date, but are 1:5000 for white & yellow, 1:7500 for orange, beige and brown, and 1:10000 for green, red and blue. The blue map is printed on both front and back sides of one piece of paper.
  • There is a remote start for Orange, Green, Red and Blue courses, located about 850 meters away from our central meeting area (at the Pine Grove Pavilion). Please allow enough time to walk from the parking lot to our check-in area, as well as to get to the start for these courses.
  • Dogs are welcome in this park but must be kept on leash at all times.

Special Honor: Marine Team Reunion. QOC as a club owes it's origins to the group of dedicated Marines who teamed up and started orienteering in the US almost 50 years ago. Several of them will be participating in a multi-day reunion organized by Bob Turbyfill that will include being at this QOC event. Please join them at and after the event to thank them and to discuss orienteering past, present and future. Update: Everyone is welcome to join the Marine Team at the Globe and Laurel restaurant on Highway 1 for dinner at 1800.Logo

Nearby Attraction: The National Museum of the Marine Corps is open from 9am - 5pm everyday, and admission is still free to this impressive structure.

Wegmans Post-Race MeetUp Venue: The nearby Wegman's in Woodbridge welcomes all orienteers patronizing their Market Cafe Saturday afternoon after our event. Check out the reviews and especially the photos on Yelp to see just how popular (and large) this place is. Located (here) just two exits north on I-95 from our event, their Market Cafe upstairs offers an enormous selection of foods (plus free WiFi). It's a fine place to hang out and discuss your routes, so bring your map in with you.

Important Notes
  • At the event, we can only accept payment in cash or check; online, you may use a credit card or PayPal account.
  • You may become a member at the event or by joining online via this webpage. Membership is completely optional.
  • Most of our events use an 'epunch' timing chip for electronic timing. Individuals or groups without their own epunch pay a higher entry fee (see above), which includes the loan of an epunch for that event. Loaned epunches that are lost incur a $40 replacement fee. Epunches (also known as SI-cards or finger sticks) are usually available for sale at each event as described here.
  • Compasses are available at no charge, but if lost incur a $15 replacement fee.
  • Please provide collateral (driver's license or car keys) when borrowing a compass or epunch.
  • For additional safety, whistles are available for sale at $1/each.
  • Free beginner instruction is always available - just ask at the registration table.
