It was a fine day to explore for the first time a terrain that seems like one we will be happy to add to the QOC roster of venues! Even with a non-fieldchecked map, Greg's basemap (primarily generated using LiDAR-generated contours) was on the whole accurate enough for navigation, and the terrain was certainly able to provide both a mental and physical challenge.
Congratulations to the 3 orienteers who found all 20 controls set by Tom Strat within the 2 hour limit: Ken Walker Jr., Ted Good and Ryan Stasiokowski. A few folks deserve special thanks for hanging around in the cold after their runs and helping with control pickup: Nadim Ahmed, Don Fish, Kim Jepsen, Greg Lennon, Tom Nolan, and Howie Weinstein.
And a big thanks is owed to Mike Lott, the Park Steward, who helped make this event the success it was; we look forward to bringing our environmentally-friendly form of "passive recreation" back to this park many times in the years to come, and to working with Mike and the VA DCR on collaborative projects as well.
20 Controls, each 10 points = 200 points (max)
Penalty was 10 points per 2 minutes over the 2 hour time limit.
